Situated on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean with a backdrop of tree covered mountains, this modern day town surrounded by rural beauty combined with a leisurely paced atmosphere makes McKinleyville one of a kind.
Visit local beaches and spend the day kayaking, surfing, fishing or taking a leisurely stroll looking for treasures. With a variety of outdoor activities to offer from: bird watching, hiking and camping, whitewater rafting trips, horseback riding to taking photos of elk in the beautiful Redwoods, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
We even have our own yearly festival, besides the abundance of other festivals throughout Humboldt County.
Pony Express Days is a town celebration that was established in the 70's and is always held the first weekend in June. It is a 4 day community event where you can enjoy a Clam Chowder Cook-off, Fireman's Muster (Fireman Games), Car Show, Pony Express Dance, Saturday Parade down Central, which rolls right into our big Pony Express Family Fun Festival in Pierson Park. There is something for all ages.
McKinleyville has now become the fastest growing community on the North Coast. With the Arcata-Eureka Airport just north of town, McKinleyville is the commercial air gateway to Humboldt County. The community offers a thriving business community, an active senior center, an established school system, with Humboldt State University being only 10 minutes away and the Coast Guard Rescue Team is headquartered right next to the airport.
Humboldt is famous for its pristine coastline, ancient redwood forests, fresh seafood, unique handcrafted products and friendly people. Enjoy all this in McKinleyville and its small town charm with big city services.
